Top 6 Universities of India: NIRF Tested ranking

The National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) is responsible for ranking colleges and universities in India, launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) now known as the Education Ministry. Ranking colleges and universities are also important from the perspective of the student.

Here is the list of top Universities in India offering excellent education and future career opportunities:

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore: The University was set up in the year 1909 in Bangalore, Karnataka. The Institute started with just two departments, General and Applied Chemistry and Electrical Technology. Today, the institute has over forty departments spread across six divisions. Admissions are done via online mode based on the merit in qualifying entrance exams for respective courses. The placement cell conducts recruitment drive every year to meritorious students.

Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai: The institute previously known as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) was established in the year 1933. The institute has quickly uplifted to a premier institute over the decades. In 2017, the institute received a top-grade accreditation from NAAC. The college offers Undergraduate and Post-Graduate degrees in 21 departments. The institute also offers PhD courses in various disciplines.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi: Considered the top university for post-graduation studies. It has received the Best University Award from the President of India. The University is known for churning out some of India’s prominent thinkers, intellectuals, diplomats, and artists. JNU is also an active arena for political and social debates and is famous for its leaning toward leftist ideology.

University of Hyderabad (UOH), Hyderabad: Founded in 1974, the institute is ranked 4th among the best universities in India, according to the NIRF ranking. The university is recognized as an Institute of Eminence by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The campus has more than 5000 students and over 400 faculty members offering several discipline courses. The university is primarily a post-graduate research university. The university provides integrated Post-graduate and PhD courses which are highly competitive.

Tezpur University (TU), Tezpur: A famous institute among central universities located in Tezpur in the North-Eastern state of Assam. The university was established in the year 1994 by an act in the Parliament of India. The University has a variety of UG, PG, PhD, Diploma and Certificate courses in various departments in many disciplines and specializations. The courses offered to the student at Tezpur University focuses on technology, science and humanities.

Established in the year 1922, it’s also one of the oldest universities in India. The university offers 86 academic departments, 16 faculties and over lakh students. The University of Delhi extends its affiliation to 85 colleges and 5 other institutes spread all across Delhi. Some of the prestigious colleges of DU: are Stephen’s College, Hindu College, Lady Shriram College, Sriram College etc.

Prominent Companies: ABP News, Amazon, Azim Premji Foundation, British Telecom, IndiGo Airlines, TCS, Infosys, Navig8, Shaadi com, SRF Ltd, VIVO, Wipro, AIG etc.

Often bright minds of India prefer abroad universities rather than studying in Indian universities. However, with the New Education Policy (NEP) in effect, the situation is expected to change gradually. Universities can expect reform very soon.
