The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), now referring as the Ministry of Education is responsible for looking after the education sector in India. Among its several initiatives, MoE offers a large number of student scholarships to financially support the studies of the student.

National Mean-cum Merit Scholarship: Ministry of Education has launched this scheme to support meritorious students who belong to economically section. Students can avail of this scholarship after the 8th standard. A total scholarship amount of INR 12k is provided to needy students in order to prevent them from dropping out and encourage them to continue their studies at the secondary stage.
A student who is currently studying in 9th standard and has scored more than 55% marks in 8th standard is eligible to apply for this scholarship. Furthermore, the student needs to appear for the selection test. The family of the student who wants to avail of this scholarship should have a total income of less than 1.5 lac per annum. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students: This scheme is specially designed for the student who has recently passed the 12th standard and opting for a college education. The key objective of this scholarship is to support meritorious students coming from economically weaker sections to pursue their higher studies by providing them with financial assistance.
In order to become eligible to avail of benefits, the student must score above 80 percentile among successful candidates in the 12th standard. Also, they must be pursuing a regular full-time courses such as engineering and medical. A lumpsum of INR 10-20k per annum is provided to meritious students. The annual family income must not exceed Rs 8 lakh from all sources. Under this scheme, roughly 82k fresh scholarships are given to the selected students every year. Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities: This scholarship scheme is offered by the Ministry of Minority Affairs for minority community students of Class 1st to 10th. The students belonging to Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi/Zoroastrian communities can apply for this scholarship.
Students are required to secure at least 50% marks in the previous examination and the annual family income should be less than 1 lac per annum. AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girls: The scheme was introduced by the Ministry of Education keeping women’s empowerment in mind. Girl students who are pursuing the first or second (through lateral entry only) year of technical degree/ diploma course on the basis of marks obtained by them in class 10+2 or equivalent exam can avail of benefits under this scheme.
To avail of this scheme, the annual income of the family should be less than 8 lac per annum. Also, up to two girls per family are eligible to apply for and receive this scholarship. A total of 5000 scholarships are provided to selected students. Girl receives INR 50k per annum including other benefits under this scheme. Students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal.
AICTE-Saksham Scholarship Scheme: The purpose of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to Differently-able students who are pursuing a technical degree/diploma course from a recognized institution. Students having not less than 40 per cent disability can avail of benefits under this scheme.
They must be admitted to the first year of degree/ diploma level course or the second year of degree/ diploma level course (through lateral entry) in any AICTE-approved institution. To avail of this scheme, the annual income of the family should be less than 8 lac per annum from all sources. The scholarship is awarded to all eligible students. A student is awarded up to INR 50k per annum and other benefits. Students can apply for this scholarship through the NSP official website.
