In a recent development, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has issued a set of guidelines for reopening of universities in a phased manner. UGC suggest six days a week and smaller class size to maintain social distancing.
The commission suggested teaching hours may be extended as per the need of the curriculum.
UGC granted the universities outside the containment zone can be reopened with proper COVID-19 guidelines. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ confirmed the same through a Twitter post.
“It is a request to all educational institutions, students, parents and all those associated with the education world to ensure compliance of these guidelines for the survival and bright future of themselves and others,” said Education Minister.
In addition to that universities must prepare to handle the inflow of the students, faculty and staff on the campus. Campuses must comply with monitoring disinfecting measures, safety and health conditions, screening and detecting the infected persons, containment measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the campus.
According to UGC guidelines, universities must provide online videos and e-books facilities to students who wish to study online.
