University Grant Commission (UGC) allow 38 universities to start full-fledged online degree courses. These higher education institutes are allowed to start courses without prior approval of UGC.

Popular central, private and state universities added to the list are as follows; Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Mizoram University, University Of Jammu, Narsee Monjee Institute Of Management Studies, Jain deemed-to-be university, Symbiosis International, OP Jindal Global University, Chandigarh University, Manipal University etc.
“Online applications had been invited from all entitled HEls willing to offer programmes under online mode for the year 2020-21. Each HEI was required to submit an affidavit for ensuring compliance to all the provisions of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020,” official UGC statement.
A total of 15 deemed university, 13 state universities and 3 private universities are allowed to offer online degree courses. The universities can offer these programmes as long as they comply with the NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements as per University Grant Commission regulations.
